JOB TITLE: Registered Dental Assistant

LOCATION: Penn Valley 

Under the general supervision of a dental provider:

1. Mouth mirror inspection of the oral cavity; includes charting of obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth.
2. Cleans and prepares operatories for each patient visit.
3. Maintains a clean and safe working environment, including compliance with OSHA infection control standards as well as the clinic’s infection control program.
4. Proper protocol for cleaning and sterilization of dental instruments.
5. Pouring of impressions.

Under direct supervision of a dental provider:

1. Remove excess cement from supragingival surfaces of teeth with a hand instrument or floss.
2. Coronal polish, following the determination by dental provider that the teeth to be polished are free of calculus or other extraneous material.
3. Operation of dental radiographic equipment for oral radiography.

Under general supervision of the dental supervisor:

1. Coordinates scheduling of patients with the receptionist and dentist following Western Sierra Dental Clinic scheduling protocols.
2. Coordinates patient flow.
3. Supervises and coordinates training of Dental Assistants.
4. Inventories and orders dental supplies.
5. Attends staff meetings.
6. Answers telephone, and takes messages as needed.
7. Schedules patients following Dental Clinic policies and procedures as needed.

Quality Improvement Duties:

1. Participates in quality improvement activities;
2. Participates as assigned in interdepartmental quality improvement team efforts; and
3. Contributes to overall Community Health Center efforts in quality improvement towards higher-quality, more cost-effective health care for patients and improved quality of work-life for staff members.
4. Receptive to advice and guidance from co-workers.

Personal Responsibilities:

1. Observes established policies and procedures, including confidentiality, safety, infection control, and other environmental regulations.
2. Works collaboratively with others towards improving organizational performance and supports the goals and objectives of the organization.
3. Meets organizational standards for attendance, punctuality, and use of break times.
4. Maintains and enhances competency through in-services, staff meetings, and educational programs.
5. Observe dress code per organizational and departmental standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Certification as a Registered Dental Assistant.
2. BLS for the Health Care Provider or equivalent CPR class is required at hire and to be maintained throughout employment.

Other Skills and Experience Preferred:

1. Bilingual (preferably Spanish) preferred.
2. Additional Preferred Experience:
   1. Familiarity with an electronic practice management system.
   2. Computer literate (i.e. logging on to a computer, using a keyboard and mouse, familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel).
   3. Ability to type 40 wpm.

The salary range for this position is $23.00-28.00 per hour.
